What is Affirmative Therapy?
LGBTQ Affirmative Therapy focuses on advocating for and celebrating people with minority identities encompassing sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression.
What is the benefit of working with an Affirmative Therapist?
People within the LGBTQ community face different challenges due to their minority identities. They also experience unique benefits from connection to the community and exploring their identities and experiences in the world. Affirmative Therapists integrate their education and training in counseling with their knowledge of the LGBTQ experience to help the client meet their goals while celebrating their queer identities.
How have the Affirmative Therapists at Rebel Heart received their training?
Many of our clinicians attended graduate schools that offered LGBTQ or gender-specific tracks. These tracks provided affirmative therapy training integrated with the other foundational trainings required to become licensed in the field. When Rebel Heart Therapy’s founder, Morgan, attended graduate school, theirs was one of the country's only LGBTQ-focused mental health programs. Tamara received their certification as an Affirmative Therapist through The Modern Sex Therapy Institute in 2020.
Supervision and consultation in Affirmative Therapy are primary aspects of the Rebel Heart Therapy clinical experience.
