Therapy for Low Self-Esteem and Self-Image

“Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.”

Audre Lorde, black feminist lesbian activist and icon

Self-image and self-esteem are the perceptions one has about their abilities, appearance, personality, and how one views their value in the world. It is impacted by thoughts, emotions, experiences, upbringing, and social influences, to name a few. Defining one's self-image can be messy, and a negative self-image can become problematic, even destructive. Low self-esteem can impact relationships, careers, mental health, and more.

Maybe you are in the process of healing from an eating disorder. Maybe you are living in a body that doesn't match your gender identity. Maybe growing up in this messed-up society with these outrageous beauty ideals has caused your self-esteem and self-image to plummet. We can help. You are not alone. We understand the struggle. It can be hard to live in, much less show compassion or acceptance, to a body you've been potentially warring with for years. We are here to help with tools, guidance, and empathy. We work from social justice, LGBTQ Affirmative, and Health At Every Size lens to help you discover and appreciate your authentic self.

Many factors influence self-image. In counseling, we will explore all the facets that have impacted how you view yourself. There isn't an easy fix in repairing a negative self-image and self-esteem. Still, at Rebel Heart Therapy, you will find therapists with compassion, understanding, and experience to help you through this time.
