Roller Derby Support Group

Rolling
with It.

Derby injuries do not just live in your body. They can stay in your nervous system, your confidence, and the moment you think about getting back on the track.

Rebel Heart Therapy presents

For derby people carrying the hit.

Rolling with It is a therapist-led support group for adult skaters and medics of all genders in the roller derby community who have experienced or witnessed serious injuries on the track.

This is space to process fear, grief, anger, body mistrust, and the weird emotional aftermath that can show up when your body is healing but your nervous system is still bracing.

Who this is for

For skaters, medics, and derby people who are not just “fine.”

Skaters

You got hurt on the track.

Maybe your body is healing, but your nervous system still remembers. This group is for the fear, frustration, grief, anger, and uncertainty that can come after a serious derby injury.

Medics

You witnessed or responded to injury.

Derby medics hold a lot. This group is also for people who supported skaters through scary moments and are still carrying the impact of what they saw.

All genders

You do not have to explain derby here.

Rolling with It is for adult skaters and medics of all genders in the roller derby community. You can show up with the full context: the sport, the culture, the body stuff, the fear, and the love of it.

What we work on

Processing the impact and rebuilding body trust.

Group focus

Coming back with more care, not more pressure.

  • Process the emotional impact of serious injuries on the track
  • Reduce fear around skating, contact, impact, or returning to play
  • Talk with people who understand roller derby culture
  • Build confidence returning to the sport, or deciding what return means for you
  • Make room for grief, anger, anxiety, and complicated feelings after injury

A Rebel Heart kind of support group

No pretending. No pushing through. No explaining why derby matters.

You can miss the track and be scared of it. You can want to return and still feel angry at your body. You can be “cleared” and still not feel okay. That is exactly the kind of honest middle space this group is built for.

Facilitators

Facilitated by Irene Paul, LPC.

A therapist-led support group at Rebel Heart Therapy.

Rolling with It is facilitated by Irene Paul, LPC, and co-facilitated by Taylor Fitzgerald, counselor-in-training, at Rebel Heart Therapy. The group is designed to support adult skaters and medics in making sense of injury, fear, and the emotional environment of roller derby.

Common questions

Before you register.

What if I’m not skating right now?

That is okay. This group is for adult skaters and medics in the derby community who have experienced or witnessed serious injury. You may be actively skating, returning slowly, on a break, or still figuring out what comes next.

Is this therapy?

This is a therapist-facilitated support group. It is a place to process, connect, reduce fear, and build confidence. If you need individual therapy, Rebel Heart can also help you explore that separately.

Can I use insurance?

The group is $50/group. You may be able to use insurance if you have Kaiser NW.

Who is this group not for?

This group is not emergency or crisis care. If you are in immediate danger or need urgent mental health support, use crisis resources or emergency services first.
